God made many different people with various abilities and interesting skills. Some of them we can read about in the Bible. It is a history book. For example, Samson in Judges 13-16, was very strong until he allowed his hair to be cut, or Jonah who was swallowed by a fish and lived to tell about it. We can read about interesting people in history books. Christopher Columbus was one of these.
The bible says in Isaiah 40:22; God sits enthroned above the circle of the earth.
Maybe the explorer Christopher Columbus read this in the Bible. He set out to prove that the earth was round. He figured he could go East to India by going West. He did not know that there was a whole continent in the way. But during his travels, he found new places and new things. One of the things he brought back to Europe was rubber. God has given us rubber and it can be used for many purposes.
The Mayan people made balls from rubber as far back as 1600 B.C. by combining the sap from the rubber tree with the juice of morning glory vines.
In 1839 Charles Goodyear developed vulcanized rubber. Do you recognize the name Goodyear? His rubber was made into tires for automobiles. A more durable Synthetic rubber was developed by German scientists during World War 1.
Balls are made from rubber because of its ability to bounce. What are some examples of rubber balls you might use? (Tennis, golf, basketball) A new and more bouncy ball made from synthetic rubber was developed in 1965 by chemist Norman Stingley when he compressed rubber under many pounds of pressure. He discovered the “Bouncy Ball” by accident.
These people, just like Adam looked at the material around them and began to imagine, explore and create new possibilities.
God has filled the earth with many things for us to discover and explore. All the raw materials needed for everything people have developed were here from the beginning of creation. The Bible says in 2 Peter 1:3; His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.
God gives people ideas for new inventions and new ways to do things. Can you think of some other people who did or invented amazing things? How about the brothers who made the first airplane! Who invented the light bulb, Who first walked on the moon? Who recently lived in space for several months?
If we ask God, He will show us what we need and how to be successful at what He has created us for.
