Matthew 6 tells us that we do not need to worry about the everyday things we need. Jesus taught that God provides for the birds and the flowers and He will provide for us as well because we are more valuable than the birds and flowers. Jesus showed how God could provide in two stories we will look at today.
One of these is found in Matthew 17:24-27; In this story the tax collectors came to Peter to collect tax money from Jesus and the disciples. Jesus sent Peter to go fishing. He said “Take the first fish that you catch, open its mouth and there you will find a coin. Use the coin to pay the tax money.” God provided a miracle for them so they would have enough money to pay what they owed.
Another story is in John 21:1-14; (Read this story from the activity page included in the lesson)
God is able to provide for us in ways we can’t even imagine. People who do not trust God to provide for them are a bit like scavenger fish. They scurry around trying to find whatever they can to meet their needs. If we trust God, He gives us good things to meet our needs.
