Acts 1:3&4; (Read this scripture.) Jesus was going up into heaven but He promised to send the Holy Spirit in His place. When someone you love leaves you might feel sad because you will miss them. When Jesus left He promised to send the Holy Spirit to be a comforter to His disciples. The disciples did what Jesus asked. They went to Jerusalem and waited. On the tenth day they were in one place when suddenly something very special happened. (Read Acts 2:1-7)
That day the promise that Jesus had made was fulfilled. The disciples found out that having the Holy Spirit in them was just as good, or even better than having Jesus with them in physical form. This Holy Spirit was with all of them at the same time. This Holy Spirit could work through them and give them the same miraculous abilities that Jesus had. This Holy Spirit could speak to them and direct them and give them knowledge and information. When the disciples went from this place, they taught about Jesus everywhere they went and by the power of the Holy Spirit in them, they did many miracles.
When we accept Jesus we can ask for His Spirit to live in us. John 14 & John 16:5-15; tells us something about the Holy Spirit and what He will do for us. He is called the Counselor. He will convict people of guilt and sin. That means He will cause us to know and feel sorry when we sin. He will guide us into truth. That means He can show us what is true and right in confusing situations. He will tell us what is yet to come. That means that He can warn us of danger ahead. The Holy Spirit will speak to us and will reveal things that God wants us to know. He will help us to understand scripture. John 14:26 says “The counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said.”
We cannot be like Jesus on our own but with the Holy Spirit in us we can be just like Jesus. He will help us to be the person He has designed us to be.
