Matthew 9:1-9 & Mark 2:1-13 Many people followed and watched as Jesus did miracles. They followed Him perhaps because they needed a miracle or they wanted to hear His teaching. Some just wanted to criticize Him. Jesus had already chosen some fishermen to follow Him and be His special helpers but He called some other people as well. One day some men brought a paralytic lying on a mat, to Jesus. Jesus saw the man and said to him, “your sins are forgiven.” Then because Jesus knew that some in the crowd were critical of Him, He said to the paralyzed man; “Get up, take your mat and go home.” And the man was healed. When Jesus was going from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax-collectors booth. “Follow me,” He told him, and Matthew got up and followed Him.(Matthew 9:9) Jesus had twelve disciples from different backgrounds. These men chose to follow Jesus when He called them and they became some of His closest friends. They went everywhere with Him and helped Him. Then one of them, Judas, proved that he was not Jesus friend at all and he chose to betray Jesus to those who wanted to kill Him.
Jesus had many followers who believed in Him besides His disciples. After Jesus was taken up into heaven, His followers became known as The Church. The church, His followers, has grown to include many people all over the world but each person in the church had a decision to make. When they heard Jesus calling them to follow Him, they listened, they heard His voice and they invited Him into their lives. They follow Him by doing His will. We have that same decision to make. Jesus calls everyone to follow Him. He loved everyone and He died for all. When we hear this message, it is His voice calling us to follow Him. What do we need to do to open the door to Him? We just need to ask for His forgiveness for our sins and ask Him to come and live in us to help us be the person He designed us to be.
He wants to be our Savior and Lord and Friend.
