If you have watched the Olympics and have watched your country’s athletes win medals, you have probably cheered and celebrated their victory with them. They represent you, they represent your country. They are your Champions. You identify with them even though you were not the one who competed.
Philippians 2:5-11; &Colossians 2:6-15; Jesus earned the right to be the highest authority on earth. Philippians says even though He was God, He came to us as a human being in human form. He became a servant to meet our need of a Savior. He accomplished for us what no other human could do. He paid the penalty of death for us. But He did not stay dead. He rose again from the grave, having ultimate victory over our enemy, Satan. Philippians says; “Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Jesus said, (John 10:10) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Jesus came to win a victory over the enemy who only wants to destroy us. Colossians 2:13-15 tells us that God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us. He took it away, nailing it to the cross. Jesus disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
God has promised that one day everyone will acknowledge Jesus as Lord or King. When Jesus returns, He will be the perfect ruler. He will cause everything that is now unfair, dishonest or hurtful, to be changed. We need to remember that God loves us and wants what is best for us.
If there are things in our life that cause problems, for example sickness or poverty, Jesus will change it for us. The Bible says that He will wipe away every tear. (Revelation 21:4)
We have a hero, a champion. This champion is better than any Olympian because He truly stood and competed in our behalf. His name is JESUS. We can identify with Him. He has represented us and has won the victory for us. He has given us life in place of death. All we need to do is receive it by believing in Him. Romans 10:9 says; If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
