Genesis 1: 9&10
At first when God made the earth, there was just water everywhere. Then God said “Let the water be gathered together into one place and let the dry land appear.” And it was so.
Demonstrate with a large basin of sand, some rocks and water. When we played in the sand, we piled up the sand and rocks. We made rivers and lakes and hills and dry places where we can build roads and parks and places to live. We can’t live in the water can we? What lives in the water? FISH! We can play in the water and we can learn to swim but we can’t live in the water. We need a dry place to live. That is what God made for us because He loves us very much. He piled up the rocks and the sand and He gave us a dry place to live. God said, “Let the dry land appear.” And it was so. (Have children repeat this verse with you.) God called the dry land EARTH and the waters He called SEAS. And God saw that it was good.
Show a globe of the earth. Show the children where they live on the globe. Mark the spot with a sticker. What are the blue places on the globe? What are the green places? There are seas and lakes and rivers for the fish and there are dry places for the people. The dry places where the people live are countries. We live in: (Name your country and point to the place you already marked with a sticker.)
