Bible Verse: Genesis 1:20.  And God said, “Let the waters be filled with living creatures and let birds fly above the earth.”

Let’s review! On day 1 god made light! How did He do that? He said “Let there be light!” and the light appeared. The next day God made the sky. Then on day 3 He made the dry land and the plants.  On day 4 God made the sun, moon and stars. On day 5 He began to make living creatures. He made the fish and the birds. He made lots of different kinds of fish and birds. Can you name some different kinds of birds? (chickens, ducks, pigeons owls. Have children make some bird sounds.)  Today we have a story about a dove. A dove is one of the kinds of birds that God made. A dove makes a (coo) sound. Can you make a dove sound?

Genesis 8:1-14                                                                                                                                          When God washed the earth with a big flood, Noah and all the animals and birds were on the ark for a very long time. Finally the rain stopped but everyone still had to stay on the boat. There was water everywhere and no dry place. God sent a wind to begin to dry up the land. How would Noah know when it was safe to go out. After a long while Noah sent a bird, a dove out of the boat. The dove could fly over the land to see if there was a dry place anywhere. All day the dove flew around then at night it came back to Noah and he brought it back into the boat. There was no dry land yet. Seven days later Noah again let the dove out. Again the dove flew around all day to find some dry land. This time the dove came back with a fresh olive leaf in its beak. Then Noah knew that the land was almost dry. After another seven days Noah let the dove out again and this time the dove did not return. It had found a dry place to live. Now it was time for everyone to get out of the boat. The dove helped Noah and his family. Let’s thank God for making the birds.
